An ecology official in the Tashkent region has been detained while accepting a $3,000 bribe in exchange for granting permission to cut down mature trees. The State Security Service reported the incident.
According to the report, the head of a district department under the Tashkent Regional Department of Ecology and Environmental Protection, born in 1990, was caught red-handed while receiving the bribe. The money was allegedly taken in return for issuing a permit to cut down long-standing trees near the official’s residential property to carry out construction work.
Criminal proceedings have been initiated against the official under Article 210, Part 1 (accepting a bribe) of Uzbekistan’s Criminal Code. A pretrial detention measure has been applied.
It is worth noting that earlier in the Tashkent region, a deputy director was detained for accepting a $5,000 bribe in exchange for withdrawing a legal claim.
