Man detained for illegally converting $6.5 million in cryptocurrency (video)

A young man has been detained in Tashkent for illegally converting cryptocurrency assets worth $6.5 million, the Ministry of Internal Affairs reported.

According to the report, a suspect identified as A., born in 2003, was apprehended at an address in the Mirobod district. A subsequent search of his temporary residence led to the seizure of several mobile phones, a laptop, bank cards, and SIM cards, all documented in accordance with procedural requirements.

Authorities said the suspect had learned the незаконный activity abroad and later organized it independently within Uzbekistan. An examination of his electronic devices revealed that between February 2025 and March 2026, he illegally converted more than 6.5 million USDT in crypto assets through a specialized platform.

A criminal case has been initiated under Article 278-8 of the Criminal Code.
