A man has been detained in Samarkand for allegedly demanding 10 million soums in exchange for promising to secure admission for a citizen. The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Uzbekistan reported the case.

According to the report, the suspect, born in 1988 in Samarkand and previously convicted under Article 168 (fraud) of the Criminal Code, gained the trust of a citizen born in 2001. He allegedly promised to enroll the individual in a technical college where he works under a dual education system.

The suspect reportedly demanded 10 million soums for the service. He initially received 700,000 soums and was later detained while accepting the remaining 9.3 million soums in marked banknotes, with material evidence secured at the scene.

A criminal case has been initiated against the suspect under Article 168 (fraud) of the Criminal Code, and preliminary investigative actions are currently underway.

It is worth noting that on April 7 this year, an official in Fergana was also detained for promising to secure university admission.
