Sergio Gor to lead US-Uzbekistan Business and Investment Council

Sergio Gor, the United States Special Representative for South and Central Asia, has been appointed as co-chair of the newly established US-Uzbekistan Business and Investment Council, the US Embassy in Tashkent announced.

The council aims to advance the “America First” economic agenda in Central Asia and create new opportunities for American workers, innovators, and businesses. Gor will jointly oversee US participation in the council alongside Saida Mirziyoyeva, Head of the Administration of the President of Uzbekistan.

The council reflects President Trump’s commitment to strengthening America’s economic leadership, expanding opportunities for US companies, and ensuring that international collaboration delivers tangible benefits to the American people, the embassy statement said.

The council will focus on expanding bilateral investment and export opportunities, supporting high-growth sectors such as IT and digital innovation, and fostering a competitive environment for US exporters in Uzbekistan.

The announcement follows President Mirziyoyeva’s visit to Washington during the C5+1 Summit on November 4–6, which showcased strong momentum in US-Uzbek relations. The new business council is expected to further strengthen strategic economic cooperation, promoting robust, secure, and prosperous growth for both nations.

Sergio Gor visited Uzbekistan on October 25 with US Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau. During their visit, they explored Uzbekistan’s rich history and culture, including the Islam Civilization Center and the Chorsu Bazaar, accompanied by Uzbek Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov and US Ambassador Jonathan Henick.

On October 27, Gor met with Saida Mirziyoyeva, who noted that senior US officials recognized the pace and intensity of reforms underway in Uzbekistan under President Shavkat Mirziyoyev. Following this, President Mirziyoyev received Gor and his delegation, who presented a series of gifts on behalf of President Trump.
