Uzbekistan loses to the Netherlands

Uzbekistan’s national football team played a friendly match against the Netherlands on the night of June 8-9 ahead of the World Cup. Fabio Cannavaro’s side lost 2-1.

The Dutch side initially created several dangerous attacks, but failed to convert their chances. However, in the 32nd minute, the Netherlands were awarded a penalty after a foul by Jahongir Orozov, and Cody Gakpo converted it to open the scoring.

Igor Sergeyev equalized in added time at the end of the second half. However, near the end of the match, in the 90+8th minute, Gakpo completed his brace. As a result, the Netherlands secured victory in the friendly match ahead of the World Cup.

This was Uzbekistan’s second friendly match in North America. Earlier, on June 2, the national team also played a friendly against Canada, in which Fabio Cannavaro’s side lost 2-0.

For the Netherlands, this was also their second friendly match ahead of the World Cup. Earlier, on June 3, the Dutch side suffered a 1-0 defeat to Algeria.
