In Surkhandarya, 71-year-old man kills wife over unprepared lunch

In Surkhandarya region, a 71-year-old man killed his wife after she did not prepare lunch, the press secretary of the Supreme Court, Aziz Obidov, reported.

The incident occurred on 15 September at around 14:30 in the “Afrosiyob” neighborhood of Sariosiyo district. The man expressed dissatisfaction over the lack of food at home, and the woman reportedly replied, “You don’t help with household chores at all, you only demand food.” Following the argument, the man took a kitchen knife into the yard and stabbed his wife twice in the left chest. The injuries damaged her heart, lungs, and aorta, and she died at the scene.

In court, the man admitted his guilt, stating that the conflict arose from “constant misunderstandings.” It was also established that the victim had been suffering from chronic kidney disease since 2024 and was classified as a Category I disabled person. Despite her serious condition, the man had regularly insulted his wife. The court classified the act as intentional homicide and sentenced him to 10 years in a general-regime colony.
