New leader was appointed to UNICEF Office in Uzbekistan

Rehina Maria Castijio has assumed her role as the head of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) office in Uzbekistan, according to a statement from the office's press service.

Previously, Castijio led UNICEF offices in Croatia and Paraguay. She joined UNICEF in 2016 after serving as the Director of UNAIDS in Bolivia, Ecuador, and Peru, as well as heading UNAIDS Private Sector Partnerships in Switzerland. She also worked as an Economic and Social Affairs Officer in the Executive Office of former UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan.

Castijio holds a degree in economics and international relations from Western Washington University in the United States and a master's degree in public administration and international relations from the University of Notre Dame in Indiana. She is fluent in Spanish, English, and French, and is married with two children.
