Reports from the EastFruit portal indicate that wholesale onion prices in Uzbekistan and Tajikistan have reached historic lows.

Analysts note that wholesale prices for fresh onions range from 10 to 20 cents per kilogram, equivalent to approximately 1250 to 2500 soums. A ton of onions can be purchased for $100.

These prices apply to premium-quality, sorted, and packaged onions. Onions brought directly from the fields by farmers are being sold at lower rates.

“Interestingly, this year's onion crop in Uzbekistan commands higher prices compared to the new harvest. Concurrently, last year's onions maintained a steady price, while new early onions are decreasing in cost,” the report stated.

Experts anticipate a bountiful early onion harvest in Uzbekistan and Tajikistan, which will prevent any significant price increases. They expect onion prices to stabilize somewhat by mid-May.
