Drug sellers, or the dark games of those in white coats

Review

When a child falls ill, parents trust doctors. They are ready to spend their last money if it means their child will recover. But in some cases, that trust appears to be turning into a source of income for certain individuals.

Recently, the editorial office has been receiving an increasing number of complaints about unnecessary medicines being prescribed to children and excessive tests and examinations being recommended. Parents are especially concerned that infants whose bodies have not yet fully developed are being prescribed various medicines under labels such as “brain-nourishing,” “nerve-calming” or “development-enhancing” drugs.

In one of the appeals received by QALAMPIR.UZ, it was stated that a baby who had not yet turned one was allegedly misdiagnosed and prescribed several medicines. After the child’s condition worsened, the parents were forced to look for another specialist.

Some doctors appear to focus more on how many tests and medicines can be imposed on a child than on properly assessing the child’s real condition. It is also no secret that some specialists who work at state medical institutions and then at private clinics in the afternoon direct patients to specific laboratories or pharmacies.

In this regard, we looked into the amount of funding allocated for children’s health in Uzbekistan. According to official data, there are currently 14.3 million children under the age of 18 in the country. A total of 108 types of medicines are provided free of charge from the state budget. In addition, hundreds of billions of soums have been allocated to protect the health of mothers and children.

According to the State Health Insurance Fund, in 2025, 347 billion soums were paid for specialized medical care provided to more than 35,000 children.

In this YouTube video, you can learn more about the “artificial” problems emerging in children’s treatment, shortcomings committed by some doctors, state assistance provided to the population and free medicines available to citizens.
