Is a 14-day truce Trump’s next tactic?

Interviews

Iran’s ambassador: We do not trust the United States; our hand is still on the trigger. We agreed to the 14-day truce as the winning side. We have defeated the United States and demonstrated the strength of our people.

On April 10, during a meeting held at the Embassy of Iran in Uzbekistan, the Iranian side presented its official position on the recent military and political situation in the region. In his speech, the ambassador addressed the confrontation between Iran and the United States, the 10-point agreement reached, and issues of domestic social unity.

“We believe we delivered a significant blow to the United States and the Zionist regime and defeated them. We achieved victory over this aggression. This was made possible by the courage of our people, the wise leadership of our Supreme Leader, the strength of our military, law enforcement and security forces, and our advanced technologies. But most importantly, it was due to the active participation of our people. The contribution of those who fought heroically on the ground to our victory is incomparable,” said Muhammad Ali Iskandariy.

Responding to a question from a QALAMPIR.UZ journalist — “Both the United States and Iran are portraying the truce as their own victory, which suggests that hostility between the two countries remains strong. Does this mean that after the 14-day period ends, a large-scale war could resume?” — the ambassador said the following:

“Why do we say the United States was defeated? I will explain. Corrupt Netanyahu and an even more corrupt Trump joined forces. They wanted to reshape the world order. They believed they could change the regime in Iran within four days. Trump said, ‘I will choose Iran’s leader myself.’ Did that happen? No. They were used to deceiving the world, but this time they could not even bring NATO and Europe fully to their side. Trump said he would control the Strait of Hormuz, but he never achieved that and never will. He carried out the largest naval and air operation in the world, yet failed to destroy Iran’s military capabilities. Until the very last moment, we struck wherever we wanted. He attacked our 2,500–5,000-year-old history and our museums, but did he succeed? No. He wanted to eliminate our nuclear facilities, but if he had succeeded, why would he send another 150 aircraft? The United States sought to provoke a civil war in Iran, to divide the country, to seize our islands and our oil and gas — but it failed in all of these. That is why we speak of their defeat. We broke through all their ‘Iron Domes’ and struck U.S. bases in the region. To our neighbors I say: the United States promised you security and sold you weapons worth billions of dollars. Were those weapons useful? No. We are brothers with our neighbors and have proven that we want to free them from American hostility. The U.S. military budget is 100 times larger than ours, yet we achieved our objectives. We stopped this domino effect,” said the Iranian ambassador.

The content of the 10-point conditions proposed by Iran suggests that U.S. policy toward Iran over several decades has been illogical. Many are questioning whether Trump’s acceptance of these terms is another tactic. The ambassador also addressed this issue.

“First of all, Trump accepted it. He acknowledged those 10 points, tweeted about it, and officially announced it. After that, hostilities and military actions immediately stopped. As a result, neither the United States attacked Iran nor Iran attacked the United States. However, the situation with Israel is different. Israel has pursued the idea of a ‘Greater Israel’ for centuries and will not agree easily. Netanyahu also acts in his own interests, which is why he attacked Lebanon. There are also retaliatory strikes from Lebanon. Another point is that, according to the agreement, there should have been peace, a ceasefire, and the Strait of Hormuz should have been fully operational. But after Israel’s actions, the strait has not fully resumed operations. During the peak of the conflict, about 15 ships passed through daily; now only about three do. In fact, all hostilities should have ceased. Leaving Lebanon in peace is also part of our conditions. If this condition is not met, the ceasefire regime will be canceled. Over the past 52 years, Americans have killed 40 million people worldwide — 40 million victims. Yet through the Statue of Liberty, they present themselves as a symbol of democracy, as if they have liberated the world,” said the Iranian official.

During the interview, the ambassador also emphasized that Iran does not trust the United States.

“We do not trust them. We never will. We have no trust in this individual — Trump — or his policies. Our hand is still on the trigger. Then why did we agree to negotiations? Simply because we entered these talks from a position of strength. They have shown their malicious nature and disrupted the order. They always claimed that there is no value for human life or justice in Iran. But although we have always been accused, we acted according to our values. We did not act to kill people. We did not harm civilians. They once again acknowledged our strike capabilities. For example, none of Iran’s multi-warhead missiles hit a school. We did not attack media agencies. We did not strike places where civilians gather. They had been planning for 47 years to attack us, but they made mistakes — they bombed schools. We did not make such mistakes and did not kill innocent people. This revealed their true nature,” said Iskandariy.
