In the Tashkent region, a deputy director was detained while accepting a $5,000 bribe in exchange for withdrawing a lawsuit. This was reported by the State Security Service (SSS).
According to the report, the deputy director of the “Single Customer Service” state institution under the Tashkent regional administration abused his official position by transferring 1.1 billion soums as an advance payment to the account of a contractor that had won a tender through the “Transparent Construction” national information system. The total contract value for the capital repair project amounted to 2.073 billion soums. In return, the official had previously extorted $2,000 from the head of the LLC.
The official then continued his illegal actions. Due to the contractor’s failure to complete construction work within the established сроки, a lawsuit had been filed with the Tashkent Interdistrict Economic Court to recover a penalty of 643.53 million soums. By withdrawing this claim and securing a court ruling in favor of the contractor, the deputy director was caught red-handed while receiving an additional $5,000 as a bribe. The detention was carried out by officers of the Tashkent Regional Department of the State Security Service.
Criminal proceedings have been initiated against the official under Article 210, Part 2, subparagraphs “a” and “v” of the Criminal Code (bribe-taking), and a custodial preventive measure has been applied.
It is worth recalling that earlier, in Andijan region’s Baliqchi district, an employee of the Emergency Situations Department was detained for promising to secure employment for others in exchange for a bribe.
