Uzbekistan will introduce “Car-Free Day” and “Car-Free Week” campaigns. This is stated in the presidential decree adopted on March 25 this year, titled “On measures to implement the nationwide ‘Clean Air’ project aimed at improving atmospheric air quality.”
According to the decree, starting from May 1 this year, “Car-Free Day” and “Car-Free Week” campaigns will be held on the 10th and 25th of every month.
Under these campaigns, the use of official service vehicles by civil servants will be strictly prohibited.
If these dates fall on working days, drivers’ salaries will be retained.
In addition, starting from August 1, 2026, a new measure will be introduced to provide greater convenience for the public. Under the trade-in program, individuals and legal entities who hand over outdated vehicles will receive partial compensation on auto loan interest when purchasing new vehicles.
It is worth noting that earlier it was reported that the same decree provides for stronger protection of atmospheric air in the construction sector and stricter environmental requirements in Uzbekistan. It also includes plans to introduce artificial rain technology in Tashkent.
