Residents of Uzbekistan will now be able to freely transfer funds from their accounts in Uzbek banks to the United States for the purpose of establishing companies, participating in their capital, or financing their branches. This was announced by Saida Mirziyoyeva, Head of the Presidential Administration of Uzbekistan and the eldest daughter of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
According to her, on November 12, a productive meeting was held with a U.S. business delegation led by David Bednar from the state of Utah. During the talks, both sides expressed satisfaction that Uzbekistan–U.S. relations have entered a new stage of development.
“It was noted that President Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s decision to introduce a visa-free regime for U.S. citizens represents an important step toward expanding business and humanitarian ties,” the statement said.
Under a presidential decree, an American–Uzbek Business and Investment Council will be established, coordinated through a newly created position of Counselor–Envoy within the structure of Uzbekistan’s Embassy in the United States. The decree also allows Uzbek residents to transfer funds from their accounts in Uzbek banks to the U.S. for setting up businesses, participating in their equity, or providing financial support to their subsidiaries.
“This measure is an important step toward enhancing the external economic activity of Uzbek entrepreneurs, strengthening investment cooperation with the United States, and shaping a new image of Uzbekistan as an open and modern economy,” the statement added.
It should be recalled that President Shavkat Mirziyoyev earlier received a business delegation from Utah led by Elder David Bednar of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and Miles Hansen, Chairman of the Stirling Foundation.
On November 6, President Mirziyoyev met with U.S. President Donald Trump in Washington and took part in the C5+1 Summit together with the presidents of Central Asian countries.
Later, it was announced that the position of Uzbekistan’s Presidential Administration representative in the United States would be established. In addition, an American–Uzbek Business and Investment Council will be created to further expand and strengthen mutually beneficial trade, investment, and commercial relations, improve the business environment, and support entrepreneurial activity between the two countries.
