Uzbekistan proposes stricter rules for vehicle tinting and traffic violations

From May 1 to August 31, Uzbekistan may offer discounted rates for tinting the rear and front side windows of vehicles in the M1 (light vehicles) category. This is stated in the draft resolution titled “On Amendments and Addenda to Certain Resolutions of the Government of the Republic of Uzbekistan on Additional Conveniences in the Use of Motor Vehicles”, which has been submitted for public discussion.

According to the draft law proposed by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, it is planned to introduce discounted rates on permits issued annually from May 1 to August 31 for changing the color (tinting) of rear and front side windows of light vehicles.

The proposed payment structure is as follows:

•  For individuals and domestic legal entities – 1 time the minimum wage (412,000 soums);
•  For foreign legal entities operating in Uzbekistan – 5 times the minimum wage (2,060,000 soums).

In this case, payment for a short-term permit must be made in full, regardless of the date of issuance.

For long-term permits (valid for one year) for tinting the rear and front side windows:

•  For individuals and domestic legal entities – 8 times the minimum wage (3,296,000 soums);
•  For foreign legal entities operating in Uzbekistan – 14 times the minimum wage (5,768,000 soums).

It is worth noting that, under the 2022 Presidential Resolution “On Measures to Create Additional Conveniences for the Population When Using Motor Vehicles”, the fee for obtaining permission to tint vehicle windshields was set at eight times the base calculation amount.
