Those who promised admission to universities detained in 2 regions

In Tashkent and Bukhara regions, individuals who extorted money from citizens by promising to enroll them in higher education institutions have been detained. This was reported by the Department for Combating Economic Crimes under the Prosecutor General's Office.

According to the report, during an operation in the city of Ahangaran, B.A., the head of a department at a non-state higher education institution, promised to admit four citizens to this university starting from their third year of studies. He demanded $1,000 from each person and was detained with material evidence after receiving a total of $4,000.

In another case in the city of Bukhara, citizen A.I. was detained with evidence after gaining the trust of N.Sh., presenting a document claiming that N.Sh. was studying at a university in neighboring Kyrgyzstan. A.I. allegedly collected $3,000, claiming it was from acquaintances working in the admissions committee, in exchange for admission to the Bukhara Innovative Medical Institute from the third year.

Additionally, during an operation in the Piskent district, citizens J.E. and B.A. were detained after promising K.Kh. admission to a university through contacts at the Tashkent State University of Economics. They were caught with evidence after receiving $2,000.

Criminal cases have been initiated under Articles 25 and 168 (fraud) and Articles 28 and 211 (bribery) of the Criminal Code of Uzbekistan. Investigations are ongoing.

It is worth noting that earlier, similar cases were reported in Bukhara and Fergana regions, where individuals were detained for taking money in exchange for promises of university admission.
