In Uzbekistan, atmospheric air protection measures will be strengthened and environmental requirements in the construction sector will become more stringent. This is stated in the presidential decree adopted on March 25 this year, titled “On measures to implement the nationwide ‘Clean Air’ project aimed at improving atmospheric air quality.”

According to the decree, starting from June 1 this year, the following environmental requirements will become mandatory at construction sites, excluding individual housing projects.

Construction sites must be equipped with background monitoring stations and integrated into the unified geo-information database of the Ecology Committee.

Online cameras must be installed across construction sites and at exit points for real-time monitoring, with integration into the unified geo-information database of the Ecology Committee.

A system will be introduced to reduce the rating scores of construction companies that commit violations in the “Transparent Construction” national information system.

When project estimates and urban planning documents for construction sites are submitted for expert review, it will become mandatory to provide a conclusion from an environmental assessment.

In addition, for newly constructed buildings and structures, excluding individual housing projects, that are more than 12 meters high and/or have a total area exceeding 500 square meters, the design process must allocate adjacent landscaping areas. These green areas, including trees, shrubs, other plants, and saplings, must account for no less than 30 percent of the total land area allocated to the project.

It is worth noting that earlier it was reported that the same decree also provides for plans to introduce artificial rain technology in Tashkent.
