Kudermetova reaches final round of Roland Garros qualifying

Uzbekistan’s No. 3 tennis player Polina Kudermetova won her second-round qualifying match at Roland Garros, a Grand Slam tournament being held in Paris, France, on May 20.
Kudermetova, seeded 16th in the qualifying draw, defeated Bulgaria’s Viktoriya Tomova in three sets, 7-6, 6-7, 6-3.
For comparison, Polina is ranked 125th in the WTA rankings, while Tomova is ranked 161st. Tomorrow, May 22, Kudermetova will face China’s Wang Xiyu, ranked 148th in the world, in the final round of qualifying. Wang reached the final qualifying round after defeating Australia’s Storm Hunter 6-2, 7-5 in the semifinals.
Another Uzbek tennis player, Maria Timofeeva, also played in the second round of qualifying yesterday, but lost to Argentina’s Maria Carle and ended her participation in the tournament.
Uzbekistan’s No. 1 player Kamilla Rakhimova will compete directly in the main draw of Roland Garros.
