The speed limit on the Termez–Boysun highway, which passes through the Surkhandarya region, may be increased to 130 km/h. This was reported in the “Oha 24” program.

It was noted that on July 9, representatives of the working group formed at the national and regional levels inspected the area to implement the instructions given during a videoconference meeting chaired by the President of Uzbekistan. The meeting focused on road safety, infrastructure improvement, and reducing traffic congestion.

As part of their study, the group examined the feasibility of increasing the speed limit on the Termez–Boysun section of the internationally significant M-39 Almaty–Bishkek–Tashkent–Shakhrisabz–Termez highway in the Surkhandarya region to 130 km/h.

Currently, the speed limit varies along this route:

  •  90 km/h between kilometers 1315 and 1324 in the Oqrabod residential area
  •  70 km/h between kilometers 1324 and 1326 in the Shifobulok neighborhood
  •  100 km/h between kilometers 1337 and 1349
  •  100 km/h between kilometers 1374 and 1400 in the Sherabad district

The proposal to raise the limit to 130 km/h in some sections is under consideration.

Experts are currently addressing deficiencies identified during the inspection. Once these issues are resolved, a re-evaluation will be conducted to determine whether the proposed speed limit increase is feasible.

It is worth noting that during the aforementioned videoconference, the President expressed concern that an average of six people die in traffic accidents every day. It was also reported that in the previous year alone, there were 9,364 road accidents in Uzbekistan, resulting in injuries to nearly 9,000 citizens and 2,203 fatalities.
