Teenage cyclist in coma after hit-and-run in Navoi (video)

An individual who struck an 11th-grade student with his car and fled the scene has been detained in the city of Navoi. The teenager is currently in a coma in the hospital. This was reported by the regional Traffic Safety Department.

According to the report, the incident took place on May 8 at approximately 12:18 a.m. At the intersection of Sadriddin Ainiy and Abdulla Avloniy streets in the “Binokor” mahalla citizens' assembly of Navoi city, a Gentra vehicle driven by a citizen born in 1996 was making a left turn when it collided with a cyclist coming from the opposite direction. The driver then fled the scene without offering any assistance.

As a result of the collision, the cyclist — an 11th-grade student born in 2007 — sustained life-threatening injuries. Fortunately, traffic police inspector Abror Ahadov, who was returning home in civilian clothes, witnessed the accident and promptly transported the injured teenager to the hospital.

The victim is currently unconscious and in a coma in the hospital’s intensive care unit.

Upon receiving a report of the traffic accident, the duty unit of the Navoi City Department of Internal Affairs dispatched an operational investigative team to the scene, where an inspection was carried out. It was determined that the crash resulted from the negligence of the driver, identified as A., born in 1996. Notably, this individual had previously been caught driving without proper documentation on two separate occasions.

During the technical investigation conducted by the Navoi City Department of Internal Affairs, the vehicle involved in the accident was located and linked to the suspect. His identity was confirmed, and he was detained.

Pre-investigation procedures are currently underway at the Navoi City Department of Internal Affairs, and legal action will be taken accordingly.

It should be recalled that a similar incident occurred earlier in the city of Bekabad, Tashkent region, where a pedestrian was struck and run over by a Damas vehicle while crossing at a pedestrian zone. The injured individual was taken to Bekabad Central Hospital. The Bekabad City Department of Internal Affairs has launched an investigation into that incident as well.
