In Navoi region, a man posing as a police officer has been arrested for blackmailing a woman by threatening to release her private photos. The regional Internal Affairs Department reported the case.

According to the report, a 25-year-old man from Surkhandarya region met a woman from Navoi through social media and established a romantic relationship. Gaining her trust in a short period, he obtained photos and videos of her in a semi-nude state.

After disagreements arose in their relationship, the man began impersonating a police officer and threatened to publish the woman’s private images on social media unless she paid him money.

Investigations revealed that the suspect repeatedly intimidated the woman and demanded money from her.

“At first, I borrowed from relatives between 250,000 and 1.5 million soums to meet his demands. But he kept asking for money every day and continued blackmailing me. Eventually, I had to report him to the police,” the victim stated.

The suspect was apprehended following an operational raid conducted by the Personal Security Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Navoi regional division, and the regional rapid response and investigation unit.

“I thought no one would find out about my actions. I deeply regret what I did,” the man admitted.

Currently, an investigation is underway under Article 165 of the Criminal Code (Extortion).

Previously, in Andijan, a fraud case involved the creation of fake customs documents and salary certificates to obtain a bank loan.
