Director in Navoiy caught attempting to take teacher’s travel allowance (video)

In Navoiy region, the director and chief accountant of a children’s and youth sports school colluded in an attempt to embezzle part of a teacher’s official travel allowance, the State Security Service reported.

According to the report, in March and May of this year, the teacher, who coaches para-athletics, participated with eight athletes in a competition held in Tashkent region. The total travel allowance owed to the teacher amounted to 40.722 million soums. The director and accountant allegedly demanded 40 percent of this sum—over 16 million soums—in exchange for disbursing the full payment.

Subsequently, the chief accountant transferred 10 million soums to the teacher’s bank card as the travel allowance. At that time, the accountant was caught taking 3 million soums as a bribe by officers from the State Security Service and the Anti-Economic Crimes Department.

A criminal case has been opened against the officials under Article 210, Part 2 of the Criminal Code (bribery), and investigative actions are ongoing.

It is worth noting that previously, a senior inspector from the Tashkent Regional Tax Department was caught red-handed accepting a $5,000 bribe during mobile tax inspections.
