A records clerk at the Tashkent Regional Prosecutor’s Office was detained with $9,000 in Namangan city, Namangan region, the State Security Service (DXX) reported.
According to the statement, the clerk demanded $9,000 from a sole proprietor in O‘rtachirchiq district in exchange for arranging, through authorized acquaintances, the cancellation of a 276 million soum fine imposed for the illegal use of electricity at the entrepreneur’s retail store and ensuring that no further legal action would be taken.
The official, who is reportedly studying at a prestigious university in Namangan city, asked that the money be delivered there.
During an operational operation conducted by DXX officers, he was apprehended in Namangan region while receiving the $9,000. The cash was seized as material evidence.
The Namangan Regional Prosecutor’s Office has opened a criminal case against the individual and others under Articles 25 and 168 (fraud), Part 3, Clause “v,” and Articles 28 and 211 (bribery), Part 1 of the Criminal Code. A preventive measure of pretrial detention has been applied to the clerk.
Earlier, it was reported that an assistant prosecutor in Tashkent’s Uchtepa district had also been detained on bribery charges.
