In Tashkent, authorities are implementing the “Green Belt” and “Green Corridor” projects to increase the city’s tree cover, stabilize the ecological situation, and improve air quality. This information comes from a recently obtained confidential document on the city’s current weather and environmental conditions shared with QALAMPIR.UZ.

The “Green Belt” project is scheduled for completion by November 1, 2026. According to the plan, part of the funding allocated to Uzbekistan under the World Bank’s “Restoring Sustainable Landscapes” project will be directed to Tashkent’s “Green Belt.” The total cost of the project is estimated at 312.5 billion soums.

Additionally, in the spring and autumn of 2026, the “Green Corridor” project will be implemented along the 33-kilometer route of the city’s “Small Ring Road.” Trees that are visually appealing and environmentally beneficial will be planted along the route. For this purpose, the Ecology Fund will allocate 1.5 billion soums per hectare.

By October 2026, a specialized nursery will be established in Tashkent’s Bektemir district, within the “Nurli Yo’l” mahalla, on 47 hectares of land, to grow large-sized ornamental trees and shrubs.

By November 2026, at least 25 streets in Tashkent with low greenery levels will be transformed into “Shaded Promenade Streets.”

By October 1, 2026, the activities of the Tashkent State Forestry Enterprise will be fully operational, financed through the local city budget. The total project cost is estimated at 16 billion soums.
