Uzbek citizen imprisoned in Turkey released

An Uzbek citizen who had been held in a correctional facility in Sakarya Province, Turkey, has been released, the Consulate General of Uzbekistan in Istanbul reported.

According to the statement, on October 16 this year, diplomats from the Consulate General visited the correctional facility in Sakarya as part of efforts to provide necessary consular and legal assistance to Uzbek nationals facing difficult life situations in Turkey.

During the visit, consular meetings were held with several detained Uzbek citizens. They were given legal advice, and consultations were also conducted with the lawyers representing them in ongoing court proceedings.

The consulate also noted that an Uzbek citizen who had been held in the facility since 2024 on suspicion of possession of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances was released from custody on October 30 following a court decision.

Earlier, it was reported that in Istanbul’s Pendik district, Uzbek national Rustam Otamirzayev was sentenced to life imprisonment for the aggravated murder of his girlfriend, Vasilakhon Usmonova.
