Uzbekistan loses to CanadaA friendly match between the national teams of Uzbekistan and Canada was held today, June 2, in Edmonton, Canada. Uzbekistan lost the match 0-2.
In the first half, Eldor Shomurodov had several scoring chances, but he was unable to convert them. In the 23rd minute, Uzbekistan midfielder Aziz Ganiyev was forced to leave the pitch due to injury. The first half ended in a goalless draw.
Canada took the initiative in the second half. Jonathan Osorio opened the scoring in the 58th minute. In the final minutes of stoppage time, Jayden Nelson scored Canada’s second goal. The score remained unchanged until the final whistle, and Uzbekistan suffered defeat in its first friendly match ahead of the World Cup.
For reference, the Uzbekistan national team arrived in the United States on May 26 after taking a direct flight from Tashkent to New York. The team, led by Fabio Cannavaro, is scheduled to play two friendly matches ahead of its World Cup debut.
After the match against Canada, Uzbekistan will face the Netherlands in New York on June 8.
