Uzbekistan has agreed to purchase an initial batch of 2,000 tons of halal horse and lamb meat from Mongolia. The agreement was reached on June 27 during a meeting between Mongolia’s Minister of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry, Enkhbayar Jadamba, and Uzbekistan’s Deputy Minister of Investments, Industry and Trade, Ilzat Kasimov.

During the meeting, Minister Enkhbayar Jadamba emphasized that Mongolia is open to cooperation in the field of halal meat production. The two sides discussed partnerships in agriculture, animal husbandry, veterinary medicine, and plant quarantine within the framework of the comprehensive partnership established during recent state visits by the presidents of both countries.

Enkhbayar highlighted the significant potential for short-term cooperation, stressing that trade and economic ties form the foundation for strengthening bilateral relations. He noted that Mongolia fully supports mutually beneficial collaboration in agriculture and the light industry sector, aiming to protect both countries' interests and boost trade turnover to 100 million US dollars.

Both parties agreed to take the necessary steps to implement unified quarantine and tariff policies, ensure uninterrupted mutual trade, and promptly finalize the required agreements and the list of goods.

In addition, Uzbekistan has approved plans to purchase 100,000 live sheep and goats from Mongolia. Meanwhile, Mongolia expressed willingness to consider granting export duty preferences.

Uzbekistan has resolved existing transport issues, and by the end of 2024, Mongolia is expected to export 7,000 live sheep to Uzbekistan.

“To further expand cooperation, Uzbekistan expressed interest in importing leather, wool, and cashmere fabrics from Mongolia and agreed to exchange experience in the fields of fruit and vegetable production as well as light industry,” Mongolia’s Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry reported.

It should be recalled that President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan recently paid his first official state visit to Mongolia. On June 24, the Uzbek Head of State held one-on-one and expanded negotiations with Mongolian President Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh in Ulaanbaatar. The two leaders discussed promising areas of practical cooperation, particularly in trade, economic, and industrial sectors. The visit concluded with the signing of a joint declaration establishing a comprehensive partnership.
