Fake driver’s licenses caused the death of 3 people in Uzbekistan – Prosecutor General’s Office

Earlier reports stated that criminal activities related to the forgery of driver’s licenses in Uzbekistan had been uncovered, with more than 1,200 fake driver’s licenses identified and criminal cases initiated. It has now been revealed that individuals who obtained fake driver’s licenses committed 1,305 traffic violations and caused the deaths of three people. This was reported by the Prosecutor General’s Office.

According to the statement, investigative actions are currently being carried out by the Prosecutor General’s Office in connection with a criminal case initiated against employees of Public Services Centers and other individuals over the forgery of driver’s licenses.

During the investigation, it was established that in eight regions — Tashkent City, Surkhandarya, Samarkand, Syrdarya, Namangan, Navoi, Andijan, and Kashkadarya — fake driver’s licenses were illegally issued to more than 1,200 citizens.

According to the analysis, 455 individuals who obtained fake licenses committed 1,305 traffic violations. Nine of them caused road traffic accidents, resulting in injuries to six people and the deaths of three others.

Given the large scale and complexity of the criminal case, a special investigative-operational task force has been established within the Prosecutor General’s Office.

At present, all fake licenses and the documents that served as the basis for their issuance are being thoroughly examined, and investigative actions are continuing in accordance with the established procedure.

“All citizens are hereby informed that driver’s licenses must be obtained only in the manner prescribed by law. The use of fake documents is prohibited by law and entails liability in accordance with established procedures,” the statement said.

It was also noted that all driver’s licenses obtained on the basis of forged documents have been invalidated, and the issue of criminal liability is being considered both for those who forged the documents and for the citizens who purchased and used these fake licenses.
