Latest data shows declining birth rate, rising mortality in Uzbekistan

In Uzbekistan, the number of births decreased, while the number of deaths increased during January–June 2025. This was reported by the National Statistics Committee.
According to the data, 405.5 thousand births were registered in the country, marking a decrease of 14.4 thousand compared to the same period in 2024.
Meanwhile, the number of deaths reached 84.1 thousand, an increase of 2.7 thousand compared to the same period last year.
Of the total births, 209.6 thousand (51.7 percent) were boys and 195.9 thousand (48.3 percent) were girls.
By location, 207.7 thousand newborns (51.2 percent) were born in rural areas, while 197.8 thousand (48.8 percent) were born in urban areas.
It should be noted that earlier this year, it was reported that the number of marriages in Uzbekistan declined, while divorces increased in the first six months. A total of 95.3 thousand marriages were registered during this period.
