Mudflows and flash floods may occur in several foothill and mountainous areas of Uzbekistan, Uzhydromet said in an urgent hydrometeorological bulletin.

According to the agency, due to expected rainfall on June 6-8 this year, mudflows and flash floods may occur in foothill and mountainous areas of the country, including:

  •  Surkhandarya region: Sariosiyo, Uzun, Oltinsoy, Denov, Boysun, Sherobod, Shorchi, Kumkurgan and Muzrabot districts;
  •  Samarkand region: Urgut, Samarkand, Bulungur, Nurobod, Koshrabot, Kattakurgan, Payariq, Jomboy and Ishtikhan districts;
  •  Navoi region: Khatirchi, Navbahor, Nurota, Konimex and Karmana districts;
  •  Jizzakh region: Zomin, Bakhmal, Gallaorol, Sharof Rashidov, Forish and Yangiobod districts;
  •  Tashkent region: Ohangaron, Bostanlyk, Parkent, Piskent, Ortachirchiq and Yuqorichirchiq districts, as well as the cities of Angren and Almalyk;
  •  Namangan region: Pop, Kosonsoy, Chortoq, Chust, Namangan and Yangikurgan districts;
  •  Fergana region: Sokh, Shakhimardan, Fergana and Beshariq districts;
  •  Andijan region: Andijan, Asaka, Jalakuduk, Kurgontepa, Pakhtaobod, Izboskan, Khojaobod and Marhamat districts, as well as the city of Khanabad.

Forecasters urged residents of mountainous areas, holidaymakers and drivers to exercise caution. They also warned that heavy rainfall in some areas may cause rainwater to accumulate and flood low-lying areas.

Citizens are advised not to travel unnecessarily to areas at high risk of mudflows and to strictly observe safety precautions when driving on mountain roads.
