On April 11, Uzbek chess player Javohir Sindorov, playing with the black pieces, drew against American grandmaster Fabiano Caruana in Round 11 of the 2026 Candidates Tournament. He remains the tournament leader with 8.5 points.

Following the round, results from the other games led to no significant changes at the top of the standings. Most of the leaders opted for draws, which worked in favor of the Uzbek grandmaster.

In Round 12 on April 12, Sindorov plays with the white pieces against Hikaru Nakamura.

For reference, the 2026 Candidates Tournament is being held in Cyprus from March 29 to April 15 and features eight of the world’s strongest grandmasters. Participants compete over two rounds (14 games). The winner earns the right to face reigning world champion Dommaraju Gukesh in a match for the world chess title. The tournament’s prize fund totals €700,000.

It is worth noting that in the previous round, Sindorov secured his sixth victory of the tournament, setting a record for this event since 2013.
