Earlier, it was reported that Muzaffar Hamdamov, head of the Samarkand Regional Department of Preschool and School Education, had included his son and nephew in an official delegation sent to Russia. The Anti-Corruption Agency announced that measures had been taken against those responsible, according to the agency’s director, Akmal Burkhanov.
It was noted that the Samarkand official, who attempted to send his son and nephew abroad instead of talented students, returned 28 million soums to the state budget. Of the eight students sent abroad, four were directly the department head’s son and nephew, while two others were the children of a local accountant and a methodologist working at the same institution.
Burkhanov separately addressed the case and stated that violations committed by officials of the Samarkand Regional Department of Preschool and School Education had been confirmed.
It was determined that the children of the department head and his nephew were sent abroad in place of students who had demonstrated academic achievement. As a result, within the framework of measures taken in connection with the case, officials of the Samarkand Regional Department of Preschool and School Education returned 28 million soums to the local budget.
“If damage has been caused to the budget, and favoritism has been allowed, we have submitted a proposal to the Ministry of Preschool and School Education to take strict measures against the department head and other officials, including possible dismissal from their positions,” Burkhanov said.
