A strong flow of natural gas under high pressure has been discovered at another newly drilled exploration well in the Muynak District of Karakalpakstan, Uzbekneftegaz reported.
According to the company, an industrial-scale natural gas flow was identified at the Shagirlik–Lower Jurassic No. 2 exploration well located near the Muynak field in the Ustyurt region.
“This area was prepared for deep exploratory drilling based on 3D seismic survey data conducted by Uzbekgeofizika JSC, under the Ministry of Mining Industry and Geology, and the Institute of Oil and Gas Field Geology and Exploration,” the statement said.
It was noted that the well was drilled by qualified specialists from the project management office. The office consists of experienced professionals who previously worked in the oil and gas sector at leading foreign companies and were brought back to Uzbekistan in line with the instructions of the country’s leadership.
On January 10, 2026, drilling reached a depth of 5,265 meters in the Lower Jurassic layers. Natural gas accumulations were identified at depths ranging from 5,061 to 5,265 meters.
In addition, to further study the geological structure of the Lower Jurassic formations and determine the extent of the discovered gas accumulations, it is planned to drill the next exploration wells No. 3 and No. 4 at this site.
