On March 24, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviewed the construction progress of a major sports facility—a modern football stadium being built in New Tashkent. This was reported by the press service of the Uzbek leader.

The foundation stone for the modern sports complex was laid by the head of state on November 11 last year. Construction of the stadium is currently progressing rapidly. In particular, land leveling works have been fully completed, while foundation works are 95 percent finished. Metal structures are being delivered to the site in stages.

In recent years, the country has undergone a period of significant transformation in the football sector. The domestic championship system has been reformed, children’s and youth academies have been established, and 75 large and 302 mini stadiums are now operating across the regions.

It is noted that in 2017, Uzbekistan had only three football fields that met the requirements of FIFA and the Asian Football Confederation. Today, their number has exceeded ten.

In addition, football stadiums at 1,500 schools have been renovated, benefiting more than one million students and local youth. Regular neighborhood, district, regional, and national tournaments among young people have also been established.

These efforts have already begun to yield results. The national Olympic football team participated in the Olympic Games in Paris for the first time, while the national team has, for the first time in its history, secured qualification for the upcoming FIFA World Cup.

On October 2 last year, the FIFA Council decided that the 2027 FIFA U-20 World Cup would be jointly hosted by Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan.

Matches of the tournament will be held at three stadiums in each country. According to FIFA requirements, the final and semi-final matches of world championships must be held at stadiums with a capacity of more than 50,000 spectators.

The New Tashkent stadium, a key project for the country’s football development, is being constructed with this goal in mind. The $100 million facility is being built in New Tashkent, which is expected to become a center of new opportunities and advanced ideas in the future.

The New Tashkent stadium is being built in full compliance with FIFA standards and is set to become one of the largest and most modern football venues in Asia.

The facility will serve not only for the 2027 FIFA U-20 World Cup but also for the long-term development of Uzbek football and youth sports.

The president was provided with detailed information about the construction process.

The New Tashkent stadium, designed to accommodate 55,000 spectators, will have six levels and will offer extensive facilities not only for athletes but also for visitors and media representatives. More than ten escalators will be installed to ensure quick access for spectators. The complex will also include three additional training fields. A metro station will be built nearby, along with a parking facility for 5,500 vehicles.

The president emphasized that, as this is the first large-capacity covered stadium in the country, attention must be paid to every detail. He also stressed the importance of planning landscaping works around the stadium in advance and implementing them step by step.
