Man attempting to smuggle 5-century-old coins apprehended in Surkhandarya

At the Termez Airport border checkpoint in Surkhandarya region, a passenger was stopped while attempting to secretly take five ancient coins out of the country, the Customs Committee reported.
According to an expert artistic assessment, the silver coins date back to the 16th century and were minted during the period of the Bukhara Khanate.
The coins have been handed over to the Termez Archaeology Museum. Customs authorities are conducting pre-investigation checks regarding the incident.
For reference, it is prohibited to export cultural valuables that are 50 years or older, including numismatic items, from Uzbekistan.
It is worth noting that previously, in Tashkent, a person was identified attempting to export coins dating from the 2nd–1st centuries BCE to the 20th century CE, valued at 400 million soums, abroad.
