Children in several preschool educational institutions in the Piskent and Buka districts of the Tashkent region suffered food poisoning. This was reported by the Ministry of Preschool and School Education.
According to the ministry, on September 24, children from several kindergartens in the two districts were admitted to the infectious disease departments of local medical associations after showing signs of sudden illness.
Preliminary medical examinations diagnosed the children with “acute functional disorders of the gastrointestinal tract” caused by food poisoning. Necessary treatments were provided, and most of the children were discharged home the same day as their condition improved. No severe cases were reported.
The situation was promptly taken under control by the Ministry of Preschool and School Education. A joint investigation was launched with the Committee for Sanitary and Epidemiological Wellbeing and Public Health, as well as law enforcement authorities.
Initial findings suggest that the cause of the poisoning was low-quality dairy products. It was revealed that the 3.2 percent kefir supplied to the kindergartens that day had been produced in a workshop located in the Akkurgan district.
“The samples taken from the affected children and the food they consumed are being analyzed in relevant laboratories. An epidemiological investigation into the incident is ongoing. Additional information will be provided based on the results,” the ministry said in its statement.
It is worth noting that earlier, inspections revealed that one-fourth of the meat products supplied to some preschool educational institutions in the Nurota district of the Navoi region were unfit for consumption.
