Flying kites near airports can pose a serious threat to flight safety. “Uzbekistan Airports” issued this warning in an official statement.
According to the statement, kites can rise to high altitudes and enter aircraft takeoff and landing paths. This creates the risk of collision with an aircraft, damage to equipment, and emergency situations. In addition, strong or reinforced strings may damage aircraft equipment or get into engines.
Under Article 17 of the Air Code of Uzbekistan, flying kites in and around airports is classified as an activity that threatens flight safety. In addition, under Article 116-2 of the Code of Administrative Responsibility, unauthorized use of airspace may result in a fine of 20 to 100 times the base calculation amount or administrative detention for up to 15 days.
“In the event of an aviation incident or disaster, what may seem like harmless mischief could also lead to criminal liability,” the statement said.
Residents and visitors of the capital are asked to respect the established restrictions and choose safe places far from the airport for flying kites.
