Uzbekistan appoints first Ambassador to New Zealand

On April 1, during a ceremonial event held at Government House in Wellington, Uzbekistan’s Ambassador to Singapore, Alisher Kayumov, presented his credentials to New Zealand Governor-General Dame Cindy Kiro as Uzbekistan’s first ambassador to New Zealand on a concurrent basis. The Dunyo news agency reported this.

According to the report, the Uzbek ambassador was formally welcomed in line with the traditional customs of New Zealand’s indigenous Maori people. During the official ceremony and the conversation that followed, the two sides discussed the current state and future prospects of steadily developing relations between Uzbekistan and New Zealand. In particular, they reviewed cooperation in politics, trade and the economy, science, education, and other areas.

Governor-General Dame Cindy Kiro highly praised the large-scale reforms being carried out under the leadership of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev. She particularly highlighted the results being achieved in modernizing the system of public administration, developing civil society, and creating a favorable investment climate for international business.

During the meeting, both sides noted the importance of further strengthening friendly relations between the two countries, intensifying political dialogue, and expanding practical cooperation in trade, economic, cultural, humanitarian, and other mutually beneficial areas.

At the same time, the New Zealand side expressed its readiness to continue consistently developing interparliamentary ties and cooperation in other fields between the two countries.

At the end of the meeting, Governor-General Dame Cindy Kiro reaffirmed her interest in further strengthening bilateral relations and conveyed her sincere wishes to the leadership and people of Uzbekistan.

Earlier, Uzbekistan’s newly appointed ambassador to Iraq, Ayubkhon Yunusov, had presented his credentials to President Abdul Latif Rashid.
