On August 5, the National Leader of the Turkmen people and Chairman of the People's Council, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, stepped beyond official protocol and personally saw off Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev at the airport. The gesture was reported by the President’s Press Secretary, Sherzod Asadov.
According to Asadov, this rare move is a priceless reflection of the sincere and friendly relations between Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan, grounded in mutual respect and genuine brotherhood. He emphasized that President Mirziyoyev’s working visit to the coastal city of Avaza to attend the Third United Nations Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries reaffirmed the uniqueness and strength of bilateral ties.
“It is no coincidence that in March 2017, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev paid his first state visit to Turkmenistan. Over the years, thanks to the efforts of the Head of our State, the National Leader of the Turkmen people Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, and President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, Uzbek-Turkmen relations have risen to an entirely new level.
He noted that today, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan serve as a vivid example of good-neighborly, trust-based cooperation in Central Asia.
President Mirziyoyev was also awarded the Order of Turkmenistan “For Contribution to the Development of Cooperation” during the UN conference. This is a symbol of deep mutual respect and a recognition of Uzbekistan’s efforts in promoting regional stability and development,” Asadov said.
In recent years, President Mirziyoyev has received numerous prestigious honors from neighboring and international partners. These include Kazakhstan's "Golden Qiran" and "Dostlik", Kyrgyzstan's "Danaker", Tajikistan's "Zarrintoj", Russia’s "Order of Alexander Nevsky", France's "Legion of Honor", Turkey's "Republika" order, the highest decoration of the Turkic world, the CIS Medal of Honor, and the Medal of Honor of the Leaders of Central Asia.
“These awards are more than a personal recognition—they reflect the result of President Mirziyoyev’s collaborative work with foreign counterparts. Through this unity, Central Asia is becoming a region of cooperation rather than competition,” Asadov noted.
He added that Uzbekistan’s growing international recognition is evidence of its emergence as a reliable, responsible, and proactive global partner.
“President Mirziyoyev’s foreign policy is not built on lofty rhetoric, but on concrete action—mutual agreements, joint projects, open borders, new transport corridors, and platforms for dialogue. All these efforts are aimed at improving the lives and well-being of our people,” Asadov said.
He concluded by emphasizing that the awarding of Turkmenistan’s Order to the Uzbek leader is not a mere formality, but a genuine acknowledgement of Uzbekistan’s active and constructive role in maintaining regional stability.
"This is not just a medal, but a sign that, in the face of global instability, mistrust, and security threats, the stable and cooperative environment being built by Uzbekistan and its partners is a valuable asset. Those who ensure this stability deserve recognition," he said.
