Earlier, it was reported that children in preschool educational institutions in the Piskent, Buka, Akkurgan, and Kuyi Chirchik districts of the Tashkent region were poisoned. At present, 182 children are undergoing treatment in hospitals, according to Nurmat Otabekov, First Deputy Chairman of the Committee for Sanitary and Epidemiological Wellbeing and Public Health.

According to the conclusion of the special commission involved in the response, all patients were diagnosed with acute gastroenteritis.

Otabekov stated that in most cases, this disease lasts two to three days and, with proper treatment, is quickly cured. He noted that patients are recovering rapidly and returning home, and this positive trend continues. The condition of all children has improved, including those previously described as being in moderately severe condition, and there are no patients in serious condition.

“The treatment of all children is under state control. The dynamics of the children's recovery continues with a positive trend,” said Nurmat Otabekov.

It is worth noting that following this incident, the Investigation Department under the Tashkent Regional Department of Internal Affairs initiated a criminal case under Part 1 of Article 257-1 of the Criminal Code (violation of sanitary legislation or rules for combating epidemics) and launched a preliminary investigation.

According to initial assumptions, poor-quality dairy products may have caused the children's illness. It was determined that the 3.2% kefir delivered to preschool institutions on that day was produced at one of the workshops in the Akkurgan district.

Otabekov previously reported on September 26 that a total of 1,922 people, including other children who had been in contact with the sick, were examined, and 959 of them were immediately sent home as they showed no clinical symptoms. Additionally, 269 children were discharged after receiving treatment. At that time, 694 children were undergoing treatment in hospitals in the Tashkent region, 13 of whom were in moderately serious condition.
