Uzbekistan U-17 national team head coach Islombek Ismoilov has announced his departure from the team, addressing fans through a post on his Facebook page.

Ismoilov hinted that his decision came in the wake of the team’s 2-3 loss to Italy in the Round of 16 at the ongoing World Cup in Qatar.

“Dear fans, football enthusiasts, parents, fellow coaches, and all citizens who live and breathe for Uzbek football!

Today, our journey in the World Cup has come to an end. Along with it, the three-year chapter I have devoted my heart to with the U-17 team also concludes.

This path has never been just a job for me – it was an honor, a responsibility, and a test from God.

Over these three years, we have shared grueling training sessions, joyful victories, and bitter defeats. In good times and in bad, we were always together,” the coach wrote.

He also recalled the team’s achievement of winning the Asian championship.

“The Asian Championship reflects the resilience and hard work of a generation.

Becoming Asian champions in 2025 was the result of our players’ courage, dedication, and determination. This achievement is now written in golden letters in the history of Uzbek football.

I will never forget that in every training session, in every tournament, we defended the honor of the Uzbek flag. Before every match, there was one thought: ‘For the Motherland, we give our all.’

As a coach, I adhered strictly to one principle: fairness and integrity. I never selected players based on their name, club, or connections, but on their effort, character, and discipline. Every player called up to the national team deserved it. I stand by these decisions today and will continue to do so tomorrow,” Ismoilov added.

He also expressed gratitude to everyone who supported him and the team.

“I bow in gratitude to the people of Uzbekistan who supported, prayed for, and believed in us. We felt your love and support every single moment. Your trust has been our greatest strength. Every success of the U-17 team was made possible by the efforts of the Uzbekistan Football Association, the technical department, and everyone working to develop football in our country.

I extend special thanks to my assistant coaches, medical staff, analysts, and the entire team who were with me through every training and tournament. Without you, this journey would not have been as strong.

To all the players who worked with me over these three years: you are my pride. You won, you lost, but you never gave up. I believe in you. You will conquer the world of football. You are the future of Uzbek football – its tomorrow’s stars.

This ending is not the closing of a door, but the start of a new chapter. Today, my journey with this team ends. Thank you, Uzbekistan! Thank you, my brothers! Thank you to all the fellow citizens who supported us!” Ismoilov concluded.

It is worth noting that on November 18, Uzbekistan U-17 faced Italy in the World Cup quarterfinals in Qatar, where Italy secured a 3-2 victory.
