Suspects detained for turning backyard into cannabis plantation in Bukhara (video)

Several people were detained in Bukhara for allegedly growing more than 100 cannabis plants in their household gardens. The Ministry of Internal Affairs reported the case.
According to the ministry, on May 22 this year, officers of the Kogon city internal affairs department in Bukhara region conducted a preventive operation and inspected the home and garden of a citizen living in the Zirobod mahalla of Kogon city.
As a result, it was found that the citizen had illegally planted and cultivated a total of 118 cannabis plants with a strong odour, ranging from 25 to 90 centimetres in height. The material evidence was documented and seized in the presence of witnesses in accordance with the established procedure.
According to the results of an expert examination, the plants were confirmed to be narcotic substances with a total weight of 1,350 grams.
In another case, the home and garden of another citizen living in the Zirobod mahalla of Kogon city were also inspected. The inspection found that the citizen had illegally planted and grown seven cannabis plants with a strong odour, ranging from 12 to 50 centimetres in height. An expert examination confirmed that the seized plants were prohibited narcotic plants, and they were documented in accordance with the established procedure.
Criminal cases have been opened against the suspects under Part 1 of Article 270 of the Criminal Code of Uzbekistan, which covers the cultivation of prohibited crops. Preliminary investigative actions are underway.
Earlier, it was reported that a man had been detained in Fergana region for growing 24 poppy plants in his garden and storing nearly 30 kilograms of poppy harvest.
