Around 21 kg of drugs were seized from a resident’s house in Chiroqchi, Kashkadarya region, the State Security Service reported.
During a search of the home of a 1981-born individual previously convicted twice, authorities found 20 kg 658 g of marijuana stored in three synthetic bags. It was reported that the individual had been cultivating the drugs with the intention of selling them for quick profit.
A criminal case has been opened under Article 273, Part 5 of the Criminal Code (illegal trafficking of narcotic drugs, their analogues, or psychotropic substances), and the suspect has been taken into custody. This part of the law carries a penalty of 10 to 20 years in prison.
According to official data, over 400 million people worldwide suffer from drug addiction, resulting in nearly 300,000 deaths annually.
It is worth noting that under the decree PF-207 signed by the President of Uzbekistan on November 3, 2025, ’’On comprehensive measures to protect public health and the national gene pool from drugs and drug-related crimes,’’ offenders will no longer be eligible for early release or sentence reductions for drug crimes.
