Earlier, it was reported that a 36-year-old Uzbek woman had been stabbed to death in Istanbul, Turkey, and that the suspect in the murder was arrested in the Navoi region of Uzbekistan. It has now been revealed that the man, originally from Navoi, was not detained at his own home but at the home of an acquaintance in the Samarkand region. This was reported by Hayot Shamsutdinov, the press secretary of the Prosecutor General’s Office of Uzbekistan.
The suspect, born in 1979 and a resident of Khatirchi district in the Navoi region, had previously been convicted in 2002 under Article 97 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan (intentional murder). Law enforcement officers in Navoi discovered that the man had returned to Uzbekistan from Turkey and was hiding with acquaintances in the Narpay district of the Samarkand region, where he was arrested.
The murder took place on September 20 of this year at around 9:30 p.m. in the Oksaray neighborhood of the Fatih district in Istanbul. The victim, a citizen of Uzbekistan, was found dead in her home. Police, a team of investigators, and medical personnel arrived at the scene after receiving the report. It was determined that the woman had been stabbed in the throat and killed. Her body was sent to the morgue of the Forensic Medicine Institute. The Homicide Bureau of the Public Security Directorate launched an investigation into the incident and examined security camera footage.
The police obtained footage showing an Uzbek man leaving the building, and it was established that the suspect had fled to Uzbekistan. Officers from the Homicide Bureau investigating the case worked with consular officials to facilitate his arrest.
The suspect claimed that he had been intoxicated at the time of the incident and had traveled to Turkey to meet the woman before returning. He also alleged that the woman had blackmailed him for money, which led to the murder. The suspect is expected to stand trial in Uzbekistan.
