Uzbek community ranks third among ethnic groups in Kazakhstan

Kazakhstan’s three largest ethnic groups have been confirmed as Kazakhs, Russians, and Uzbeks, according to a report from the National Bureau of Statistics of Kazakhstan.

The latest data indicates that approximately 20.3 million people of diverse ethnic backgrounds reside in Kazakhstan. Ahead of May 1 – the Day of Unity of Peoples, the government released an official breakdown of the largest ethnic groups in the country:

Kazakhs – 14,456,709;
Russians – 2,963,938;
Uzbeks – 678,487;
Ukrainians – 371,807;
Uyghurs – 305,648;
Germans – 223,272;
Tatars – 218,926;
Azerbaijanis – 155,364;
Koreans – 120,686;
Turks – 91,732;
Dungans – 86,067;
Belarusians – 74,389;
Tajiks – 58,712;
Kurds – 51,171;
Kyrgyz – 40,200.

In February 2025, authorities released data on the ethnic composition of Central Asian countries. As of January 1, 2025, the Uzbek population figures in the region were: Kazakhstan – 660,600, Kyrgyzstan – 999,300, Tajikistan – 926,300, Turkmenistan – 642,400, Uzbekistan – 29.2 million.
