Explosion in Kokand leaves one dead (video)

Today, 16 February, a gas explosion occurred in a multi-storey residential building in the city of Kokand, Fergana Region. One person was killed as a result of the incident, the regional Department of Emergency Situations reported.

According to the statement, at 21:18 a report was received via the 112 system that a multi-storey building was on fire on Muqimiy Street in Kokand. Fire and rescue crews arrived at the scene at 21:23, contained the fire at 21:25 and fully extinguished it at 21:32.

The fire was reportedly caused by a flash of a gas-air mixture. The roof and ceiling of apartment No. 28 and household belongings were burned over an area of 50 square metres.

Four people sustained burns of varying severity and were hospitalised at the city medical association. Despite medical assistance, one of the victims died. The causes of the incident are currently under investigation.

Earlier, an explosion had occurred in a multi-storey residential building in the city of Andijan. No fire broke out following that blast and other apartments were not damaged. Two people were injured in the incident.
