Over 81 billion soums in VAT refunds issued to low-income families

In Uzbekistan, low-income families received nearly 81.8 billion soums in social cashback payments during the first nine months of this year, according to the State Tax Committee.

The report notes that since May 1, 2023, individuals listed in the “Unified Register of Social Protection” have been eligible to receive a refund of 12% value-added tax (VAT) — known as social cashback — instead of the standard 1% cashback when purchasing certain goods from retail outlets.

Between January and September 2025, a total of 275,539 consumers benefited from this program, receiving almost 81.8 billion soums in social cashback payments.

Top three regions by refund amount:

•  Samarkand region – 22.9 billion soums
•  Tashkent city – 16.2 billion soums
•  Tashkent region – 7 billion soums

Earlier, it was reported that in 2024, consumers received over 1 trillion soums in cashback payments.
