78-year-old re-elected as head of Uzbekistan’s Federation of Trade Unions

On November 1, Qudratilla Rafiqov was re-elected as Chairman of the Federation of Trade Unions of Uzbekistan, receiving 91.9 percent of the votes, the federation’s press service reported.

It was noted that, for the first time, the chairman and his deputies were elected on a competitive basis through a secret ballot at this year’s congress.

For reference, Qudratilla Rafiqov was born in 1947. From 1993 to 1998, he served as Deputy Chairman of the Council of the Federation of Trade Unions of Uzbekistan, and from 1998 to 2003, as Chairman of the Jizzakh Regional Council of Trade Unions. He later worked as the General Director of Jizzakh Battery Plant JSC. In December 2016, he was elected as the new head of the Federation of Trade Unions of Uzbekistan, replacing Tanzila Norbaeva.

It is worth noting that in 2020, at the federation’s 8th congress, Qudratilla Rafiqov was unanimously re-elected as Chairman of the Federation of Trade Unions of Uzbekistan.
