Two employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations were caught in Khorezm for accepting bribes in exchange for promising jobs and services through their alleged connections. This was reported by the State Security Service (SSS).
An employee of the Emergency Situations Department of Tuprokkala district demanded \$1,500 from a resident of Khazorasp district, claiming he could secure employment at the Khorezm Regional Emergency Situations Department through his official connections. He was caught red-handed during an operation conducted jointly by the Khorezm Regional Department of the SSS and the Department for Combating Economic Crimes. The suspect was detained while receiving an advance payment of \$400 and 1.3 million soums as material evidence.
In another case, an employee of the Shavot District Emergency Situations Department deceived a citizen by promising to help obtain a driver’s license through contacts in law enforcement. For this service, he received \$1,400 and 1.3 million soums.
Criminal proceedings have been initiated against both individuals under Articles 168 (Fraud) and 211 (Bribery) of the Criminal Code. Investigations are ongoing.
It should be recalled that earlier, an investigator from the Urgench City Prosecutor’s Office in Khorezm was caught first accepting a bribe and then attempting to return it. The investigator had demanded money to prevent a criminal case, initiated by the Department under the Prosecutor General's Office against a local resident, from being forwarded to court with an indictment.
