On May 8, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with the families of fallen servicemen, World War II veterans, and labor front participants at the "Millat fidoyilari" (Devotees of the Nation) Alley in Victory Park. The meeting was held to honor their sacrifice and commemorate the 80th anniversary of Victory in World War II, according to the presidential press service.
The monument, initiated by the President himself, honors the memory of servicemen and law enforcement officers who gave their lives defending Uzbekistan during the years of independence.
“Every year we come here and remember the losses in World War II. Now, with this complex dedicated to the sacrifices of independence, we have rightly recognized our national heroes. This square holds deep spiritual meaning—it's about identity and human dignity,” said President Mirziyoyev during the event.
He expressed deep respect to the families of fallen defenders of the nation, adding:
“These brave sons, in moments of grave danger, remained faithful to their duty and gave their lives for the people. Their courage contributed to today’s peace and clear skies. Their families should know that their names will never fade. We have immortalized them here. I bow before their parents and spouses. May their children live up to the greatness of their heroic fathers.”
The President emphasized the need to organize memorial events in the hometowns of the fallen, showcase their courage to the younger generation, and document their heroism in literature and art.
He also personally congratulated World War II and labor front veterans on the holiday:
“First of all, I congratulate you—and through you, all our veterans—on the 80th anniversary of the Victory. On behalf of our people, I offer my deep gratitude. Thanks to your bravery, today’s generations enjoy peace and prosperity. We must instill the value of this peace in our youth. Your lives are living examples. Every word you speak is a lesson for us. May you enjoy long life, strong health, and remain our pride and inspiration.”
In line with the Presidential decree issued on February 19, various support measures are being extended to war and labor front veterans. These include:
- A one-time payment of \$10,000 to WWII veterans and disabled participants;
- 25 million sums to those officially equated with war veterans;
- 3 million sums to labor front participants;
- Jubilee medals marking the 80th anniversary of the Victory awarded to many distinguished elders.
In addition, veterans are being provided with medical, social, and patronage services, including treatment in sanatoriums upon request.
Relevant ministries, agencies, and military units are actively monitoring the needs of veterans’ families and the relatives of servicemen and law enforcement officers who died in the line of duty, ensuring they receive appropriate support.
