Mirziyoyev meets ADB Vice President in Namangan

On September 17, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received Vice President of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) Inmin Yang on the sidelines of the International Forum “From Poverty to Prosperity” taking place in Namangan, the presidential press service reported.

At the beginning of the meeting, Vice President Inmin Yang conveyed the greetings and best wishes of ADB President Masato Kanda to the head of state and congratulated him on the successful organization of the forum.

The parties discussed practical aspects of deepening cooperation with the ADB in implementing Uzbekistan’s reform strategy.

It was noted with satisfaction that bilateral cooperation has reached a high level in recent years. Currently, the portfolio of joint projects in “green” energy, transport, digital transformation, education, and other areas amounts to $14 billion.

President Mirziyoyev emphasized the importance of preparing a large-scale strategic partnership program with the ADB. The program is expected to include new projects in infrastructure, public-private partnerships, business development, the social sector, and capital market growth.

Special attention was given to advancing projects aimed at poverty reduction, processing of key minerals, budgetary support, and the establishment of a joint investment platform.

The meeting also addressed preparations for the upcoming annual meeting of the ADB Board of Governors, which is scheduled to be held in Uzbekistan next year.

It should be noted that earlier today, President Mirziyoyev delivered a speech at the opening of the international forum “From Poverty to Prosperity” in Namangan. The event gathered representatives of more than 30 leading organizations and around 200 international experts. Following the forum, the President also held meetings with Islamic Development Bank President Muhammad bin Sulaiman al-Jassir and World Bank Global Director Luis Felipe Lopez-Calva.
